AB® Fence Ashlar Blend – Redoubt Road, Whitford
The story of this stunning residential project began when the client visited the New Zealand Landscape Supplies (NZLS) yard at 55 Springs Road, East Tamaki, and saw first-hand the beautiful AB® Fence on display.
The client, most impressed with it, asked who built the fence as she was looking for someone with previous experience with the system to carry out work on her property. A few weeks later the contractor, Alicon Limited, visited the site and discussed options with the client and the possible AB® Fence location, panel configuration and construction methodology. The client and contractor also agreed-upon using a special colour combination that required Terracotta panels and Limestone posts and capping blocks, with the objective of matching the existing property house, garage door and roof colours.
Design
The contractor called the Bowers sales team and asked if it was possible to get a special made-to-order colour. The sales team saw it as an opportunity to exhibit the new system, so manufacturing was promptly scheduled. The quantity estimation allowed for some extra units for contingencies and/or changes if needed.
Later, our technical team evaluated the project and helped the contractor get an AB® Fence concept design. We provided expert advice regarding the concrete post depth, number of bond beams, and post spacing required based on the site soil conditions and wind zone. The final design was for an AB® Fence with 5.4 metres post spacing and a panel height of 1.9 metres, that required two bond beams and a castellated finish.
Installation
At the time, it was the second AB® Fence carried out by the Alicon team which helped them to learn more about the particularities and intricacies of the system. Installation was carried out during approximately 2 weeks during February and the AB Ashlar Blend pattern built was the standard four course pattern.
As part of the AB® Fence installation, an opening for water drainage was created to move water away from the fence. Later on, lighting and a gate were also installed completing the fence.
